Hi all,
just after some views about how strong prussian and Austrian infantry units are in your games?
i know the rules state 20 for prussians and 24 for prussians but ob's seem to indicate 16 strong for most units in both armies.
any help/ views would be welcome!
thanks in advance
peter

I must admit I've downsized them too after realising that the strength recommended in the rules is wildly over optimistic for almost all nations.  A quick look through the Kronoskaf site will confirm this.

My Prussians are now 16 figures and my Russians 12-16 figures.  The size of cavalry units its also over egged IMHO.

My Austrians are currently 20-24 figures per battalion, havn't painted any Austrian cavalry yet. Whereas my Saxons are 12 figures per battalion and cavalry 12-16 depending on the regiment concerned.

Thanks for the quick response guys.
I may do some regiments at 20 and some at 16 ( only because the figures are painted already)
"fat wally" what size will you do your cavalry?
cheers

Nothing set in stone. There may be a few exceptions but generally this list seems more accurate/realistic.  I used the old WRG army lists plus Duffy/Ospreys/Kronsokaf. Hope it helps.

Horse (Cuirassiers) - 8 figs (2 Sqdns)

Saxons

Austrians

Russians
Cuirassiers, Horse Grenadiers - 8 to 12 figs (2-3 Sqdns)

We are playing with the larger units because the game seems to play better that way.
Russian infantry - 16 figures
Russian cavalry - 16 figures
Hussars are sometimes 20 figures
Russian cossacks - 12 figures

Prussian infantry - 20 figures
Garrison are 16 figures
Prussian cavalry - 20 figures
Garde cavalry are 12 figures

Austrian infantry - 20 to 24 figures
Austrian cavalry - 16 to 24 figures

The larger units stay on the longer and help keep people playing. Always a good thing.

In relation to battalion sizes, as stated my Saxon battalions are 12 figures so would it be best to "brigade" two of these together to make a unit of 24. The rules allow for it but I am not sure. Anyone know how they would have been deployed. I would be looking at post Pirma in the French theatre.
