French bedroll query

Like NTM, I have regarded it as a rolled up habite. I've read somewhere (that I can no longer recall) that the capote was more comfortable to wear than the habite, and that on campaign, even during warm weather it was sometimes worn in preference to the habite. This means the habite has to go somewhere, and the top of the pack seems as good a place as any.

Uncertain as to whether this is historically correct, but it sounds feasible.

Cheers,
Beresford
