Giles/ED,

Actually, three serious battles (Hubbardton, Freeman's, Bemis) plus Bennington and Oriskany (also serious, but no British line present), and the 9th Foot action at Fort Anne means that it was one of the more active campaigns of the war.

Then you can add in some "what-ifs" - St Clair staying put and forcing Burgoyne to storm Fort Ticonderoga; an American attempt to halt the building of the wilderness road (a perfect encounter battle with troops being fed in by both sides); and the British fighting their way out of the camp at Saratoga, instead of surrendering (or conventioning, if you prefer). I'm not sure what St Leger's troops wore, but you could use blue (21st) and yellow (9th or 20th) faced units for the 8th and 34th Foot, so the storming of Fort Stanwix is another option, as is St Leger staying put and fighting Arnold's relief force. There's also the cancelled American invasion of Canada planned for early 1778, when the British would probably still have been wearing their 1777 uniforms.

Giles: a simple rule to remember - when in doubt, buy more figures.
