All,.

Just to let you know that following on from the success of Waterloo 2002,

Salamanca 2003 has been provisionally booked for the weekend of 11th-12th October 2003, again at the National Army Museum, London.

You may wish to pencil in this date so that wife/partner/work/other wargames projects are forewarned.

Dr Brown,
it's as well to let everyone know that the weekend in question is going to be a really unusual event at the National Army Museum. There will also be re-enactors, living history and lectures - all on the Wellingtonian/Napoleonic theme. The Salamanca game should be the centre piece.
I hope also that by doing a somewhat smaller game over a slightly shorter period (but a playing area of roughly equal size) we can address some of the points veterans of the Waterloo game made, such as there being too many people to squeeze in around the table.
I'm really looking forward to it !
oops... better get painting.
regards
EC

Sounds great Dave. I am actually not working that weekend so hope to be there. Have you any idea of how many you will be catering for and when you are likely to start taking bookings.

Jon,
without jumping the gun here... there will evidently be fewer places than there were for Waterloo. I suspect we will end up with roughly ten per side.
You might as well get your name down.

Jon,

Ec is spot on, I hope for in the region of 20 players, (about 10 per side) and perhaps a couple of umpires, again one allocated per side.

I'll take official bookings once the museum have sorted everything out their end. Though there's nothing to stop people e-mailing me direct with provisional interest. (However a place will only be secured on receipt of money! But that will come later.)

You never know I might even get to play this time!!!!

Many thanks for that Dave and EC. I have emailed you to register my interest and will keep an eye on the discussion forum for announcements.

Timmo,

The game will be open to the public over both days - so feel free to turn up and watch, chat, etc, etc, for one or even both days!

Dear Ogre,

Fear not - the pub with the food (The Builders' Arms - the Sunday night one) was of the heterosexual variety (I think!) - it was the Saturdy night pub (The Queen's Head) that was of concern. It did serve very good beer though - and very reasonably priced...

Oh no! What am I saying?!

Yours,

Furst von Blucher von Wahlstaedt

I know that Blucher was buggered up a lot by Napoleon, but please!
But seriously, how many people playing, start time, finish time etc.
My concern is mainly the time. Will it prove difficult for people not in London to get home on the Sunday and I mean Scarborough this time, not Paris.

Gerry,

The detailed arrangements are yet to be comfimed but I can give a rough guesstimation of 10am - 5pm each day.

This time I'll request the divisional deployment from the commanders in advance and set up the troops according to their plans to save time on day one.

As for getting back to up north I really couldn't say - down to the coach companies and if any still run in this country the trains. (God help us!!)

I heard that!

As our resident railway representative: Sunday nights aren't normally too bad - everyone's trying to get INTO London on a Sunday night and the Sunday evening timetable is very similar to the weekday timetable in most areas. The bad time is Saturday night and Sunday morning, as that is the twilight zone in the timetable, when all the major engineering works go on.

I would guess that you wouldn't have any difficulty getting to York in decent time - as for Scarborough...

Any new news on the Battle? at th N.A.M in October, athough player numbers will be down it may be an idea to have a lot of players who have played Napolenonics & General de brigade? as in particular the orders for each briagde must really be known(ie assualt orders 50% etc must move at least 1/2 move forward & charges restrictions etc) to drop somone in at the very deep end could cause problems(or is that real life!!!!?) at least one read of the rules might be useful, anyway looking forward to it
cheers

All,

Just a reminder that Salamanca 2003 is still scheduled for Oct 11th-12th at the National Army Museum, London.

There are still spaces available so if you haven't already contacted me off forum and you wish to play, plse do so.

Also if you have a French or British preference then also let me know.

I am supposed to be away to Gran Canaria that weekend, have contacted the schools up here and tried to get them to change their holiday arrangements, also contacted travel agent to see if we could reschedule our holiday, pleaded with the airlines to swap tickets. Begged the hotel to make other arrangements. Suggested to wife she go with the kids herself.......visited local casualty to have my wounds treated. I guess I will not be there to see the Salamanca game.......I will start planning for next year however.
