We're playing the new Deluxe version in 25/28's and have to say the games are great.

There is just a couple of things that I need to get straight in my mind about DP's tho! ??

1. A reason to test morale is for any unit taking 10%+ casualties from shooting. Does this apply if the 'casualties' are just DP's and not 'real' men? We're playing it as real men lost, and seems ok but just wanted to check.

2. For generals to rally off DP's do units have to be stationary. I had read an earlier thread on this, and the rules. The rules don;t say that units have to be stationary for generals to rally off but the earlier thread seemed to include lots of opinion from v.1 of the rules and the response from EC wasn't that clear.

3. And one last one - in melee do DP's come first or again are these all real men that are lost?

Cheers

Hi,

1. You are quite correct, the morale test kicks in on actual casualties inflicted not DP suffered; the DP will of course effect your ability to pass the morale test.

2. To rally off DP the unit does have to be stationary. I think some people play it that generals can rally off even if moving but I don't think that is correct. There was an amendment to V1 that allowed a CinC to lead a unit on assault orders and still rally a DP if they moved but that no longer apears in BGDeLuxe(but I intend to use it in my games)

3. In melee, as well as firing, the first "casualties" inflicted are always DP until you reach three, or were already on three, then they become actual casualties.

So if your infantry charged into a melee with no DP but had an adverse result, retreat, and took 2DP plus melee casualties then you get 2DP. If you were facing an 18 strong infantry battalion they would inflict a further 3 casualties(1 per6), one of which would now be your third DP and the remaining two actual casualties.

Hope that helps

regards
Paul

Thanks Paul,

still not sure about the options in the deluxe edition as it does not state that the unit has to be stationary to be rallied by a general that has joined the unit!!!!!

Come on peeps can I move my bloodybacks whilst a general pushes the on or do I have to stop in front of the rebels only to be shot up even more??

We have just completed Bunker Hill after a couple of trials and I have to say the Yanks are bloody hard enough when you rally the Brits on the move. If we had to stand it would have been murder, turn 16 saw the brits on the summit of Breeds Hill whislt the rbels retreated in rather good order Oh yeah now I see

Cheers all- Eclaireur well done cracking rules
